LFO (Lost Featured Offer)
LFO (Lost Featured Offer) is the modern successor to the Lost Buy Box metric: the percentage of time your offer was not the Featured Offer on a detail page — meaning shoppers saw a competitor’s offer instead, or in suppression cases, no Featured Offer at all.
What is LFO?
LFO (Lost Featured Offer) is the modern successor to the Lost Buy Box metric: the percentage of time your offer was not the Featured Offer on a detail page — meaning shoppers saw a competitor’s offer instead, or in suppression cases, no Featured Offer at all.
Where LBB measured the same underlying event, LFO is the metric that current analytics dashboards surface for both sellers and vendors, including through Brand Analytics and Retail Analytics. Read it as a visibility score: your LFO percentage is the share of customer visits where you were not the buyable option.
What moves the number
The classic causes are all still live. Being undercut on price — by a competitor, a reseller, or a marketplace-arbitrage seller who does not share your cost base. A fulfilment-method disadvantage in the algorithm’s ranking of offers: FBM versus FBA or Seller Fulfilled Prime, where delivery promises differ. Account-health or customer-experience metrics drifting. And Buy Box suppression events, where the box itself is withheld over pricing-policy or availability concerns.
Because the metric aggregates time, it hides the pattern unless you break it down. A 45% LFO rate across the whole week could be one competitor’s weekend discount, a genuine price disadvantage all week, or an availability gap. The rate tells you there is a problem; the breakdown tells you which one — so segment it by ASIN, by day, and by suspected cause before you act.
Why vendors and sellers both track it
For sellers, the impact is direct: losing the Featured Offer interrupts sales velocity, and falling velocity feeds ranking decay. For vendors, the metric is a read on offer competitiveness in a world where a third-party offer can win the box on Amazon’s own detail page — making it a negotiation input as much as an operational one.
In both cases the response is the same short list: price competitiveness against the offers that keep winning, inventory availability so the box never moves for want of stock, and fulfilment structure that puts your delivery promise in the algorithm’s favour. LFO is the scoreboard for all three at once.
In practice
A seller reviews a best-selling ASIN and finds an LFO rate of 45% — they were not the Featured Offer for nearly half of all customer visits. Half the traffic arriving from search, ads, and social effectively met a closed door. Ranking the causes (a reseller undercutting on price, and a stock dip that briefly triggered suppression) turns one alarming number into two specific fixes, both of which are cheaper than the visibility the listing was losing.
How Harpy Media helps
Offer competitiveness is a standing item in our reporting: LFO movement tracked per key ASIN, price gaps rationalised against true landed-cost floors, and fulfilment structure reviewed when delivery promises start deciding the box. Visibility you already paid for should never be leaking to another seller un-noticed.
LFO FAQ
How is LFO different from LBB?
They measure the same underlying event — time not holding the Featured Offer — but LFO is the newer, more precise framing now surfacing in analytics dashboards, and it explicitly includes periods where the Buy Box was suppressed and no Featured Offer existed at all.
What causes a high Lost Featured Offer rate?
Being undercut on price, a fulfilment-method disadvantage (for example FBM against FBA), low account-health or customer-experience metrics, and Buy Box suppression events. High LFO is a symptom — diagnosing requires breaking the rate down by cause.
Does a high LFO rate actually cost money?
Yes: every period without the Featured Offer is customer traffic that could not buy from you, and the lost conversion feeds ranking decay on top. Vendors also carry it into negotiations as evidence of offer competitiveness, or the absence of it.
