Featured Offer

Amazon & D2C glossary · Harpy Media

The Featured Offer is the placement on a product detail page that carries the Add to Cart and Buy Now buttons — the box shoppers click. On most pages, one offer holds it at a time, chosen by Amazon among eligible offers (the same mechanic sellers have long called the Buy Box).

What is Featured Offer?

The Featured Offer is the placement on a product detail page that carries the Add to Cart and Buy Now buttons — the box shoppers click. On most pages, one offer holds it at a time, chosen by Amazon among eligible offers (the same mechanic sellers have long called the Buy Box).

It is the single most valuable asset on any listing: it captures the overwhelming majority of that page’s sales. Two sellers can share identical rankings, identical content, and identical costs — but whoever holds the Featured Offer gets the cart, and whoever doesn’t gets a competitor’s link to click.

What wins the Featured Offer

Amazon’s selection weighs several factors, and the weighting explains most mysteries. Landed price (usually decisive — price plus delivery cost to the customer, and Prime eligibility changes what “landed” means), seller performance (account health, feedback, order defect history — a shaky seller loses the box even at a better price), fulfilment method (FBA or Seller-Fulfilled Prime often tips the scales), and stock availability (no stock, no box). For brands selling through multiple sellers, the box rotates based on that same contest in real time — and losing it can silently redirect sales to a grey-market seller at a discount price.

Playing for the box — and defending it

For single-seller listings, the work is keeping Amazon’s four inputs healthy: competitive net price (understanding that coupons, deals, and shipping cost all enter the calculation), spotless account metrics, sensible fulfilment (FBA or SFP capability), and never letting stock lapse. For brands with multiple sellers, the game changes: enrolment in Brand Registry, transparency programs, and pricing-tool discipline determine whether your authorised offer — at your intended price — tends to hold the box, or whether third parties pricing below MAP keep taking it. The review cadence that catches everything: weekly Featured Offer percentage (what share of page views you held the box), investigated whenever it dips — because every percentage point of lost box is sales going to someone else on your page.

Featured Offer % = page views where you held the offer ÷ total page views  ·  track weekly; dips are money leaving quietlyRanking brings the traffic; the box decides whose cart it fills.

In practice

A brand notices its Featured Offer share falling from 96% to 71% across two weeks. Investigation: an unauthorised reseller entered at 8% below MAP and won the box whenever its single fulfilment node could ship fast. Response: brand-registry enforcement, a targeted pricing correction on the overlap, and elimination of the seller’s supply source. Box share returns above 95%, and the recovery in sales is measurable month-over-month — the listing never changed; the cart stopped being filled.

⚠️ Watch out. A seller watches ranking and reviews while never checking Featured Offer share — and a slow leak of cart ownership compounds for months. On a page with competing offers, “my sales dropped and I don’t know why” is very often “someone else has been winning your cart since March.”
💡 Harpy tip. Put Featured Offer share on the weekly dashboard, per ASIN. It’s the one number that reports cart ownership directly — everything else is a proxy.

What decides who wins it?
