SFP (Seller Fulfilled Prime)

Amazon & D2C glossary · Harpy Media

SFP lets sellers who ship from their own warehouses carry the Prime badge, provided they can meet the delivery promises attached to it — and keep meeting them after the trial ends.

What is SFP?

SFP lets sellers who ship from their own warehouses carry the Prime badge, provided they can meet the delivery promises attached to it — and keep meeting them after the trial ends.

It is the arrangement for brands whose products suit self-fulfilment: bulky items, fragile goods, products with special handling or packaging needs, or inventory already sitting in a warehouse that serves customers well. The badge removes the main conversion disadvantage of shipping it yourself.

What the programme asks in return

The obligations are performance terms, and they are strict. Orders must be dispatched and delivered within the promised windows, with the tracking and on-time metrics to prove it. There is a trial period during which delivery performance is assessed, and after that, ongoing metrics that govern whether the badge stays.

Which is the honest trade: you keep the fulfilment flexibility and the lower fees of self-shipping, and in exchange you take on a service commitment with real consequences for missing it. Brands that treat the badge as a badge fail this trade — it is a service guarantee that happens to include a badge.

Whether you can sustain it

Before applying, model the operation honestly. Can the warehouse dispatch at the volume the listing generates, on the days it generates it? Is the carrier network reliable across the whole coverage area, including the awkward postcodes? Are weekends and holidays covered? Any gap becomes a metric failure, and metric failures cost the badge, the ranking benefit, and the customer trust that went with it.

Where the operation is genuinely capable, the payoff is strong: Prime-eligible visibility with self-fulfilment economics, on products where the standard fulfilment route would be expensive or impractical. Where it is not, the same products are better served through a fulfilment service — and guessing wrong costs a season’s momentum.

In practice

A brand selling bulky furniture that would be costly to route through a fulfilment centre runs SFP from its own warehouse, adding weekend cover and a second carrier for the postcodes its main one serves poorly. Prime visibility is retained, fulfilment fees stay low, and the performance metrics hold through the peak season.

⚠️ Watch out. Chasing the badge without the operation. A seller enrols, gets the badge, and then misses delivery promises during a busy week. The metrics lapse, the badge is lost, and the listing drops back to non-Prime visibility right when the traffic was highest — a worse position than never having enrolled.
💡 Harpy tip. Model the commitment before applying: dispatch capacity at peak, carrier reliability across your whole coverage area, and coverage of weekends and holidays. Where the operation can genuinely sustain it, the combination of Prime visibility and self-fulfilment economics is strong.

How Harpy Media helps

Fulfilment strategy is part of our operations work: programmes matched to product economics and warehouse capability, delivery performance monitored, and eligibility not treated as a one-off enrolment.

SFP FAQ

What is Seller Fulfilled Prime?

A programme that lets sellers shipping from their own warehouses display the Prime badge — on condition that they meet and maintain the programme’s delivery performance standards.

What does it require?

Passing a trial period with delivery metrics within the programme’s thresholds, then maintaining that performance consistently, including weekends and peak periods.

Which products suit it?

Bulky, fragile, or specially handled goods, and cases where inventory already sits in a warehouse that can serve customers competitively. It is less often right for small, fast-moving items.
