AMC (Amazon Marketing Cloud)

Amazon & D2C glossary · Harpy Media

AMC (Amazon Marketing Cloud) is Amazon’s clean-room analytics environment: a privacy-safe space where advertisers join Amazon’s ad-event data with their own first-party data and run SQL-level analysis across the full customer journey.

What is AMC?

AMC (Amazon Marketing Cloud) is Amazon’s clean-room analytics environment: a privacy-safe space where advertisers join Amazon’s ad-event data with their own first-party data and run SQL-level analysis across the full customer journey.

It answers the questions the consoles can’t: which channels actually created the sale (not just which got the last click), how audiences overlap between Sponsored Products and DSP, what incremental lift a campaign really delivered. In an attribution-poor world, AMC is where truth lives — at a price.

What you can see in AMC that you can’t elsewhere

Path-to-purchase: the actual sequence of touchpoints (SP click → DSP view → organic purchase) across up to 12.5 months of history. New-to-brand versus repeat splits by campaign. Audience overlaps — stop paying two channels to reach the same shopper. Custom attribution windows and models. Incrementality measurement. None of this exists in Seller Central reporting; all of it is queryable in AMC for advertisers (and their agencies) who bring the SQL or use Amazon’s instance templates.

Who it’s actually for

AMC shines when ad complexity makes standard reporting lie to you: multiple channels, DSP budgets, always-on plus event campaigns, and questions like “what did my TACoS actually buy?” If you’re running single-channel Sponsored Products on a modest budget, AMC is a telescope for a sailor still learning knots — master SQP and campaign reports first. The standard on-ramp: an agency or consultant with an AMC instance runs your first incrementality and overlap analyses, and you graduate to in-house queries as complexity grows.

In practice

A supplement brand running SP + DSP suspects overlap waste. An AMC analysis shows 38% of DSP impressions hit shoppers who’d already clicked SP ads that week, and its “assist” campaigns showed nearly zero incremental new-to-brand orders. Budget shifts: $40k/year out of overlap, into prospecting audiences — same total spend, measurably more new customers.

⚠️ Watch out. A mid-size brand buys AMC access for the prestige of it, runs two template queries they don’t quite understand, and pays for a year of clean-room compute while making exactly the same decisions as before. Data infrastructure isn’t insight — someone still has to ask the right question and act on the answer.
💡 Harpy tip. Before investing in AMC, write the three decisions you’d change if you could attribute perfectly. If you can’t name them, you don’t have an attribution problem — you have a strategy problem AMC won’t fix.

How Harpy Media helps

We’re AMC-fluent and use it where complexity earns it — incrementality, overlap, true NTB economics. And we’ll tell you when you don’t need it yet; the free data stack carries most brands much further than they think.

AMC FAQ

What is Amazon Marketing Cloud?

Amazon’s privacy-safe clean room where advertisers join Amazon ad data with their own to analyze full-journey attribution, incrementality, and audience overlap.

Do I need AMC to run Amazon ads?

No — it’s an advanced analytics layer. Most brands should exhaust ABA/SQP and campaign reporting first; AMC earns its keep with multi-channel complexity.

How do I get access to AMC?

Through an AMC instance (via Amazon Ads or an agency/partner with one), typically alongside meaningful DSP or ads spend.
