CPF (Climate Pledge Friendly)

Amazon & D2C glossary · Harpy Media

CPF (Climate Pledge Friendly) is Amazon’s sustainability program: certified products wear the green-leaf badge on search results and detail pages, and get their own filtered surfaces (the CPF storefront and filter). Certification comes from Amazon’s own programs (like Compact by Design) or a list of qualifying third-party certifications.

What is CPF?

CPF (Climate Pledge Friendly) is Amazon’s sustainability program: certified products wear the green-leaf badge on search results and detail pages, and get their own filtered surfaces (the CPF storefront and filter). Certification comes from Amazon’s own programs (like Compact by Design) or a list of qualifying third-party certifications.

For brands, the badge is a two-sided asset: a trust signal that converts eco-conscious shoppers (who increasingly filter for it), and — through the Compact by Design path — occasionally a fee reducer, when the qualifying redesign also drops the product’s size tier.

How products earn the leaf

Two routes. Amazon-native: meet program benchmarks like Compact by Design (efficiency per unit of use, certified data). Third-party: hold one of dozens of qualifying external certifications (organic, fair-trade, energy-star-type programs, forestry certifications) — Amazon’s CPF page lists the accepted set per category. The practical first step is an eligibility audit: many brands discover an existing certification already qualifies them and the badge is paperwork, not a project. The application runs through Seller/Vendor Central with documentation.

What the badge is worth (honestly)

It’s a filter-surface and a trust marker, not a rank spell: eligible shoppers filter to CPF-only views where non-certified competitors vanish; the leaf adds visual differentiation on crowded cards; and early CPF-participating products have shown measurable sales lifts in their first year per Amazon’s own reporting. It won’t rescue a weak listing — but between two comparable listings, it tips decisions for the growing segment that cares. Best paired with sustainability content in A+ that proves the claim; the badge opens the door, the story walks the shopper through it.

In practice

A bedding brand holds an OEKO-TEX certification it had never registered anywhere. A ten-minute eligibility check confirms it qualifies for CPF; the application goes in; the leaf appears on all 14 listings two weeks later. Organic traffic from the CPF filter becomes a small but steady source, and the badge gives their A+ sustainability story a credible hook. Ten minutes of paperwork, permanently compounding.

⚠️ Watch out. A brand designs a ‘green-looking’ redesign (earth tones, leaf iconography, the word ‘natural’) without pursuing any actual certification. The aesthetic persuades nobody who filters, greenwashes the shoppers who check, and earns nothing structural. Vibes are not a certification.
💡 Harpy tip. Audit your existing certifications against CPF’s accepted list before starting any new sustainability project — the badge is often already sitting in your paperwork.

How Harpy Media helps

We look for certifications brands already hold and surfaces they’ve left unclaimed — CPF is the classic example of earned equity going unmonetized.
