AMZNCC (Amazon Carton Content Code)
The AMZNCC (Amazon Carton Content Code) is the barcode applied to each carton you send to Amazon, encoding exactly which SKUs and quantities are inside that specific box. It’s how a fulfilment centre knows what it’s holding before opening anything — the machine-readable packing list on the outside of the box.
What is AMZNCC?
The AMZNCC (Amazon Carton Content Code) is the barcode applied to each carton you send to Amazon, encoding exactly which SKUs and quantities are inside that specific box. It’s how a fulfilment centre knows what it’s holding before opening anything — the machine-readable packing list on the outside of the box.
Accurate carton content means faster check-in, cleaner receiving records, and fewer discrepancies between what you shipped and what Amazon logged. Inaccurate or missing codes mean manual processing — slower receipt of your inventory and a per-unit fee schedule you didn’t budget for.
How it fits the inbound chain
AMZNCC works alongside the SSCC (the carton’s unique ID) and your ASN (the shipment-level manifest). Think of it as three layers: the ASN says what the shipment contains, the SSCC says which box is which, and the carton content code says what’s in each box down to SKU and quantity — including expiry dates where relevant. When all three match physical reality, receiving is scan-fast. When they don’t, humans open boxes, count units, and bill the delay accordingly.
The discipline that avoids the fees
The failure mode is almost always process drift: a packer deviates from the pick list, a substitution happens on the floor, and the box no longer matches its code. The fix is verification at sealing — a scan step that confirms box contents against the code before tape. It costs seconds per carton and eliminates the majority of receiving discrepancies, which are otherwise found weeks later in reconciliation, when nobody remembers what actually went in box 47.
In practice
A 3PL operation adds one scan-at-seal step: each carton’s contents are verified against its AMZNCC before it enters the pallet. Receiving discrepancy reports drop 80% in two months; check-in times fall from five days to two; and the reimbursement-claims workflow (built to recover the cost of the old discrepancies) quietly becomes unnecessary.
How Harpy Media helps
Inbound discipline is the least glamorous profit lever we manage — clean carton data means faster shelves, honest ledgers, and no fee surprises. Boring wins, banked weekly.
AMZNCC FAQ
What is an Amazon Carton Content Code?
The barcode on each inbound carton encoding its exact contents — SKUs, quantities, and dates — so receiving can process it without opening the box.
What happens if carton content codes are wrong?
Manual processing, slower check-in, discrepancy fees, and reconciliation disputes between your records and Amazon’s.
How do I generate AMZNCC labels?
Through your shipment workflow in Seller/Vendor Central — box contents are declared per carton, and the system produces the matching codes.
