Amazon Business (AB) is the B2B layer of the marketplace: verified businesses, institutions, and government buyers purchasing with business-only pricing, quantity discounts, tax-exempt workflows, and procurement documentation. For sellers, it’s a second demand pool sitting on top of the retail one you already serve.

What is AB?

Amazon Business (AB) is the B2B layer of the marketplace: verified businesses, institutions, and government buyers purchasing with business-only pricing, quantity discounts, tax-exempt workflows, and procurement documentation. For sellers, it’s a second demand pool sitting on top of the retail one you already serve.

Switch it on (it’s a Seller Central setting, not a separate account) and your listings become visible to procurement managers buying at volumes retail customers never touch. The economics can be excellent: bigger orders, consolidated fulfilment, and fee reductions on multi-unit shipments. The catch is deliberate pricing — B2B discounts you set casually become the baseline every corporate buyer sees.

How B2B pricing works

Two tiers of leverage. The Business Price: a discounted rate visible only to verified business buyers — your acquisition hook, applied even on single units. Quantity Discounts: tiered percentage breaks at volume thresholds (10+, 20+, 50+…) that push cart sizes up. Set the single-unit business price a notch under retail, then let the tiers do the negotiating: buyers self-justify the bigger order to reach the next break.

The B2B profit calculation

Bulk orders change the fee math in your favour — FBA’s multi-unit fee discount kicks in on consolidated shipments. Run the numbers per order, not per unit assumption:

B2B net profit = (bulk volume × discounted price) − COGS − reduced referral fee − multi-unit fulfilment feeDiscounts are a marketing cost — they must still clear your floor after the fee reductions are counted in.

What B2B buyers actually need

Invoices, tax exemption handling, and predictable reordering — procurement runs on paperwork. Sellers who enable business features properly (accurate invoices, PO handling, reliable stock) become line items in annual contracts; sellers who don’t become one-time transactions. The difference isn’t price, it’s whether buying from you is easy to justify in someone’s internal system.

RFQs: the enterprise side door

When a buyer needs volume beyond your discount tiers — 5,000 units for an office buildout — the Request for Quote system lets them negotiate directly. RFQs are where enterprise deals quietly live. Respond fast, quote with margins structured for volume, and you’ve accessed a sales channel with no ad spend and no organic ranking required.

In practice

A seller of a $40 office chair sets a $38 business price and 15% off at 10+ units. A procurement manager equipping a new office buys 50 chairs: a single $1,615 order, cheaper per-unit fulfilment thanks to multi-unit fee discounts, zero ad spend, and a buyer who reorders for every future office. Retail took a year to build that volume; B2B delivered it in one cart.

⚠️ Watch out. A seller enables Business pricing by copying a competitor’s tiers without running the margin math at the deepest tier. A 500-unit RFQ comes in at their steepest discount — which, after fees, is below cost. They discover it after fulfilment. Discount tiers are promises; price them like promises.
💡 Harpy tip. Automate the tiers. Amazon’s Automate Pricing can hold your business price at a set percentage under retail and move the tiers with it — so a retail price change never silently breaks your B2B floor.
