What is VSP?

The Vendor Success Programme is the entry-level managed support arrangement for vendors: structured guidance and account support covering operational health, catalogue management, and growth opportunities, priced below the more comprehensive managed service.

It exists for the middle ground. Some vendors qualify for full managed support and some do not; between them sit brands that would benefit from structure — regular reviews, a named contact, and someone whose job includes pointing out what is being missed — without needing a full-service relationship.

What the programme covers

Four areas. Purchase order management and availability, which is where most vendor performance problems start. Lead time and delivery accuracy, the operational metrics that determine planning reliability. Content quality, including titles, imagery, and enhanced content, which is the vendor’s remaining lever on presentation. And participation in promotional events, plus support through chargebacks and compliance issues.

Value scales with engagement. A vendor that uses the reviews to work through an agenda, prepares its own data, and acts on the recommendations gets material benefit. A vendor that receives the reports and files them has bought a subscription to information it already had.

Making the most of it

Three practices. Bring your own numbers to every check-in, because the conversation is more useful when both sides can see the same picture. Arrive with specific questions — what is limiting availability on this line, why were these charges applied, what would make this product eligible for that placement. And implement: the recommendations usually concern the brand’s own operations, and progress is what makes the next review more valuable than the last.

The honest framing is that this is a structured way to borrow expertise, not a service that fixes things on the brand’s behalf. The compliance and supply work remains the vendor’s; the programme improves the odds of doing it in the right order.

In practice

A vendor uses its monthly check-in to work through an availability problem on two lines, arrives with its own forecasts and order data, and takes away three specific actions. The lines return to healthy stock levels within a quarter, and the next review moves on to promotional planning.

⚠️ Watch out. Treating it as a reporting service. A vendor attends the reviews, receives the dashboards, and makes no operational changes. Nothing improves, and the conclusion drawn is that the programme does not work — when the programme supplied the diagnosis and the vendor did not apply the treatment.
💡 Harpy tip. Use the reviews as working sessions: bring your data, ask specific questions, and implement before the next one. The value is in the sequence of reviews building on each other rather than in any single report.

How Harpy Media helps

Vendor development is part of our work: support arrangements used actively, reviews prepared with our own data, and recommendations implemented rather than noted.

VSP FAQ

What is the Vendor Success Programme?

An entry-level managed support arrangement for vendors — covering purchase order management, lead times, content quality, promotional participation, and compliance support.

How does it differ from full managed services?

It is a lighter, lower-cost structure providing guidance, reviews, and a support contact rather than comprehensive management of the relationship.

What makes it worthwhile?

Engagement. Vendors that bring their own data, ask specific questions, and implement between reviews get material improvement; those that file the reports get administration.
